As winners of Hyndburn District Cubs Football Competition 2009, 109th Loyola went forward to represent Hyndburn in the East Lancashire Cubs Football Competition on Saturday 7th March 2009 at Barden School, Burnley.

The team reached the semi-finals. After 0-0 in normal play, Loyola were knocked out of the competition by the eventual winners in a Penalty shoot-out. Well done to the team in progressing so far in the competition.

Summer Camp at Tawd Vale

30 Scouts, Cubs and Leaders from 109th Loyola Scout Group Oswaldtwistle held their summer camp last weekend (13th -15th June 2008) at Tawd Vale Scout Camp Merseyside with activities based on an 'Indiana Jones' theme.

With activities including a Treasure Hunt, problem solving exercises, canoeing, climbing and archery along with the more traditional Scouting activities such as cooking on wood fires and evening campfire, a good time was had by all and the weather remained fine, which is a bonus when sleeping outdoors in tents.

Local falconers gave a talk to Loyola Cubs at the regular Tuesday night cub meeting at the Scout HQ on 26 Feb 2008 and brought along some of their 'Birds of Prey' to meet the Cubs.

109th Loyola Cubs took part in the Hyndburn District Football Competition held at Bowley Scout Camp on Saturday 16th February 2008.

Pictured below left are the Loyola Cubs team who reached the semi-finals of the competition and right shows match action in the sports hall during one of Loyolas games.

Below left shows a shot on goal and below right is an action shot as Loyola's goal keeper makes excellent save.

Visit to Camelot Theme Park

109th Loyola Cubs joined lots of other cubs from Hyndburn District for a fantastic day out at Camelot Theme Park nr Charnock Richard.

Despite heavy rain, everyone had lots of fun. First port of call was the log flume - everyone got so wet it didn't matter about the weather!

Cubs even found time to make a new friend in the Animal Park at Camelot.

Centenary Camp

Hundreds of Scouts, Cubs and Beavers converged on Bowley Scout Camp , Nr Gt Harwood for the Centenary Camp over the weekend 25th- 27th May 2007 to celebrate 100 years of Scouting.

The site was divided into district sub camps. Pictured are Loyola Cubs and Scouts at the entrance gate to Loyolas Site on the Centenary Camp.

Akeema Shield

On Saturday 28th April, Hyndburn District Beaver Scouts competed in the Akeema Shield at Bowley Scout Camp. This mini-olympics style event was organised by ADC Tracy Shaw. Four colonies took part in the competition - 1st Baxenden, All Saints (Mercer), 109 Loyola and St Paul's Oswaldtwistle. It was a great day (sun was shining!) and everyone had a lot of fun - leaders and beavers alike!
The winners were 109 Loyola who will now represent the district in the county event at Bowley in September. Their leader, Ros Brown, was absolutely thrilled as the colony has not won an event before.
